The Reason Project is a non-profit dedicated to spreading reason and rational thought in our society. It was founded by Sam Harris, the well-known author of The End of Faith, and Letter to a Christian Nation, and his wife, Annaka Harris. It boasts a robust community of over 7,000 members, and an incredible list of advisors including Bill Maher, Christopher Hitchens, Salman Rushdie, Ayaan Hirsi Ali,
and Ian McEwan.

The site has numerous features and sections; most were custom created for the Reason Project's use. The home page displays content from the RSS and user-submitted newsfeed and archive, both of which are discussed heavily in the comments and the active forums. Another expansive feature is the Scripture Project, a custom wiki that includes, and allows approved users to annotate, the full text of the Bible, Qur'an and Book of Mormon.

Overlaying the site structure is a complex volunteer system. Users can volunteer and be approved to work on different areas of the site, such as comment moderation or article editing. Each group has access to a set of unique tools to edit content along with documentation and instructions on how to use those tools. The access permissions of volunteers affect what they see and are able to do on the web site.
